A divorce is the legal ending of a marriage. There is only one ground for divorce in England and Wales which is that the marriage has irretrievably broken down. One of the five facts needs to be asserted to support the ground of irretrievable breakdown as follows:
- Unreasonable behaviour.
- Desertion for two years.
- Two years separation and consent.
- Five years separation.
The divorce process is usually fairly straight forward and can be completed in approximately four to six months. There is normally no need for parties to attend Court.
Please contact one of our specialist family solicitors to discuss whether divorce proceedings are right for you. We also have experience of dealing with civil partnership dissolution.
We offer fixed fees for straightforward divorces. £650 plus VAT when acting for the petitioner (the party instigating the divorce) and £250 plus VAT when acting for the respondent. There is a Court fee on issue which is currently £550.
Please contact us today to arrange a fixed fee consultation for £100 plus VAT with a family and divorce solicitor in Bicester or Oxford. The fixed fee meeting will last for about an hour and is followed up with a detailed letter of advice.
