EMPLOYMENT: Flexible Working

Most employees have the right to apply to work shorter hours, changed shifts or fewer days; equally an employer has the right to refuse such requests. But just because an employer is opposed in principle to employees working flexibly, does not mean that a refusal is right. Advice is necessary both in the making and the responding to such requests. There are penalties for an unreasonable refusal, the most potent of which are the bringing of discrimination claims.
