HMG Law opens the doors of dementia with a Dementia Friends information session at Oxfordshire busin

Updated: Apr 15

On Wednesday 3 November Ben Saunders, a solicitor in the Private Client team at HMG Law, delivered a Dementia Friends information session to the members at the Oxfordshire business networking group, Opendoorz.

In his role as a Dementia Friends Champion for the past 6 years, Ben has delivered Dementia Friends information sessions to over 473 people at various businesses, community groups and organisations (including the police, a community shop and a pack of cub-scouts).

Dementia Friends is a social action movement which aims to increase the public’s understanding of dementia and encourage local communities (whether that is the immediate family and friends, work colleagues or the wider local community as a whole) to better support people who are living with dementia.

The members at Opendoorz came away from the session understanding new ways of thinking about how the brain is affected by dementia and they learnt the 5 Key Messages about living with dementia:

  1. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing;

  2. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain;

  3. Dementia is not just about losing your memory;

  4. It is possible to live well with dementia; and

  5. There is more to the person than the dementia.

Ben is a specialist in mental capacity law through his day-to-day work as a solicitor specialising in Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputy applications to the Court of Protection.

If you would like Ben to run a free Dementia Friends session for your business or organisation, or if you would like advice and assistance in relation to your Will, Lasting Powers of Attorney or applications to the Court of Protection, please contact Ben at the Bicester office of HMG Law on 01869 252244 or email him directly at
